Agenda
|
Strike the NFF work training program from the agenda. Because its resolution requires information from the 2011/2012 budget, it will be re-tabled in the April agenda. The Committee also discussed the request for a representative at the VAWCC meeting to take place in late March. It is taking place in the Southwest Region and the committee feels that it is important to have a representative discussing the concerns pertinent to the Quinte area. Sarah P. offered to represent us, as did Rahno Godfrey. They will discuss their schedules and whoever decides to go will contact Colleen Purdon. This item will be discussed again at the April meeting.

Budget

Upon further review, it has been established that up to $2100 is available as a grant. There were 3 submissions considered from SACQD, Three Oaks and Maggie’s Resource Centre. Awards of $500 to Maggie’s Resource Centre for the Boys at Risk program and $500 to Three Oaks for copies of the Fresh Start booklet (a resource for women moving forward from domestic violence) were given. Additionally, $500 was awarded to Three Oaks from the Projects budget for more copies of the Fresh Start booklet.
Originally, the Executive committee wanted to award $1000 to SACQD for their Speaker’s Event, but the request was withdrawn as difficulties have surfaced with booking their desired speaker for their event. The Executive Committee re-opened the $1000 grant for the next month to be awarded at the March meeting.

Website Updates: Ashley P. gave some website updates. If anyone still has issues getting in to the members only section, please contact Ashley at coordinator@qccav.ca . She urged the committee to send event information to her so it can be posted to the "upcoming events” section of the website.
Treasurer’s Report: Teresa noted that the numbers from her budget and the Three Oaks budget are in line with each other. She will be requesting balance sheets from Three Oaks prior to each meeting. She asked whether the sub-committees were on track to spend their remaining dollars. All sub-committes responded that their plans were on track to make use of the dollars. Teresa will speak with Barb from Three Oaks and Kate Lightfoot to make sure the proper amount raised from the Human Trafficking Event has been/will be deposited into the account. Teresa has also requested that all invoices for year-end be submitted to her by March 7 at the very latest to coincide with the final Three oaks pay period before March 31st.

Sub-Committee Reports
|
Education and Training: This committee will hold a special family movie event at the empire theatre on Sunday Feb 27th at 2:00 PM. The family movie is "Megamind” with free popcorn and soft drinks to be served. Advertisements are so far in Snap Quinte, Mix 97, 95.5, the Community Press and the Intelligencer. Ashley will add it to the QCCAV event calendar as well as send it out as an e-mail. Gift certificates will also be given as prizes. Pam Havery asked about the justification of this event as "Education and Training”. Kim Charlebois described the event as targeted to families in need and youth at risk. Some individuals without adequate housing will have the opportunity to come in from the cold during the event, and it promotes QCCAV within the community. Kim asked Ashley P. to create a slideshow that can be played in the background before the movie starts to concisely promote QCCAV. Kim will ask the Empire how this process works. Does Ashley e-mail it to someone, bring it on a USB key, etc? Kim will follow up and touch base with Ashley P. Membership: Cheryl Clarke gave the update. Kim Howard, Kelly Limin and Cat Fisher are the other members of this committee, but their work is very demanding right now. They cannot attend the meetings for the next short while. Cheryl Clarke will handle the AGM planning, with help from Ashley P. as needed.
Central & South Hastings: Lisa W gave the update regarding the March 8th event. The plans are well under way. She has prepared the guest speakers with some probable concerns that our community will raise so they can have their answers prepared. Many members of the police have expressed interest in attending. Karen McCoy is handling the RSVP’s for the event. The event will likely be small, with only the 22 signatories of the Centre and South Hastings Protocol invited. Some people wondered why other members of QCCAV were not invited. Lisa explained that the focus was to control cost and to focus on the signatories for the geographical area as Prince Edward County and North Hastings have separate Protocols.
North Hastings: No Updates at present. Michele A. and Sarah P. are looking at meeting again in the near future.
Prince Edward County: Rahno G of Alternatives is the lead organizing member of this committee. She went through the record of signatories and sent out e-mails to try to organize a day in March to meet.

Community Updates
|
Michele A. gave an update from VWAP. She accepted a project out of Toronto to continue work on a new database that has been in the making for quite some time. She expects to be away for 6 months. In the interim, Cathy Gaebel will fill her post as VWAP manager, Lorie Baird will move to full-time hours, and there is a temporary part-time position advertised.
Sandie Sidsworth (Canadian Mental Health Association) discussed an event in partnership with the Community Advocacy and Legal Centre (CALC) about the facts about bedbugs on Feb 23rd. The information is especially important for support workers, group homes, marginalized tenants, seniors and those with mental health issues. The event will focus on frontline workers and the importance of early detection. There has been talking of a MPP attending. She will send an electronic copy of the event to Ashley to distribute.
Kim Charlebois gave an update from SAQCD. They hired a contract counsellor (Michael Bruinix) to help them reduce the waiting list for services. Clients of the waiting list were given the option of receiving up to 10 sessions with him or remaining on the list. Eight female and six male clients agreed to have him as a counsellor, reducing the waiting list from 71 to 57.
Pam Havery gave an update from Three Oaks. She discussed some updates from OAITH (Ontario Association of Interval and Transition Houses). They are discussing getting 8 apartments up and running in the area.
Steven Starbuck promoted the cyber-bullying workshop Human Services and Justice Coordinating Committee (HSJCC) workshop on March 24th from 9:00-3:30. The event will be held at the Banquet Centre in Belleville. Anyone interested can e-mail meggan.dunlop@ontario.ca. Ashley P. will also send out the digital advertisement through e-mail.
Lisa W. of Victim Services discussed the Victim Quick Response Program. This program has been underfunded for a few years and continues to create deficit. Victim Services cannot fundraise as it is not a charitable organization. As such it relies on funding from MAG. The budget for the program is 26,000, which has shown to be insufficient due to the difficult crime situation in the area. Lisa would like to ask QCCAV to write a letter affirming the need for this program in our area. Lisa will discuss with Steven Starbuck and the issue will be considered at the next meeting. Michele Arsenault of VWAP asked the coordinator to note her abstention from this decision.
Jamie Maskill of the Community Health Centre introduced himself. The agency works in conjunction with other agencies to provide information on social housing, sexual health, chronic disease management, stress reduction programs and access to primary health services. The office is located in downtown Trenton and includes part time physicians, 2 RN’s, 3 Nurse Practitioners, social workers and dieticians. They are also considering opening a Belleville office as well, as two parts of one office, not as a satellite office. They are interested in liaising with community services and stakeholders to further integrate into the community.
